I always look forward to the excitement of the Fall Cultural Season. The Sunday New York Times features a bunch of gigantic sections for the New Seasons of Movies, Television, Music, Dance, and Theater.  

Several times a year we light candles for family members who have passed.   These are not just any candles.  These are special candles intended to burn for 24 hours in memory of the loved ones lost.  

My husband and I became grandparents over the summer. As my fellow grandparents can attest to, becoming a grandparent is a real lesson in how much you can truly love another human being. But we have also learned it is a real lesson in letting go.     

It’s nice to be be busy – and I am not talking about work (but that too!) When this weekend got scoped some time ago, my daughter was getting the benefit of attending a Broadway matinee (Letters of Suresh) with her mom yesterday and an afternoon game at Citifield today with her dad. Plans change.

You ever wonder why there's a tiny pocket above the front pocket on some jeans?    I did so I consulted the oracle. Turns out it had a clear reason behind its creation. It’s just that we don’t use it for that reason today.  

We have a terrific member named Ray Walcott who fills many Gotham roles reliably, ergo, his nickname “Reliable Ray”.  Last Saturday night both Ray and I were at the Gotham Yankee/Met game at Citi Field and were both, responsibly, wearing masks.  Thus, when I first encountered Ray I was not sure who he was.

For me, there will always be a sense of new beginning in September. It’s probably the remnant of years of new school years so long ago.Over the last few days, Flo and I have received pictures of our grandchildren on their first days of school.

I became fascinated by Muhammad Ali in 1960.  My father was a huge Olympics fan and the first one we watched together was the Rome Olympics.  Ali’s style of punching and getting away from his opponents gracefully was unique. He was 18 when he won the light heavyweight Gold Medal. He quickly turned professional and won his fights as he grew in size and stature.
